Enigma Rover Crew

Who are we

Enigma Rover Crew is the district Crew for Randburg Scouting district, our members are drawn from the 7 Scout troops in the district.

Brief history

Enigma was formed in 2003 after the closure of several small Crews in the district in the late 1990's and early 2000's. The Crew was originally based at the Bordeaux Scout hall where the Crew grew from strength to strength participating in many district and regional events . 2016-2017 was a low point for the Crew with low membership and long-time members leaving the Crew was on the brink of closing. It was determined that the Crews distance from the other troops resulted in potential members going to other closer Crews in different districts, because of this the Crew Council of the time looked for a new home for the Crew. One was found at the RandPark Ridge Scout Hall, conveniently located at a thriving Scout Group and in close proximity to other troops. Since moving Enigma has become one of the biggest Crews in Johannesburg and a important part of the Randburg district.

What is Rovers

Rovers is the 3rd phase in the Scouting Movement, any one between the age of 18-30 years old can join regardless of prior Scouting knowledge. Rovers was started after World War 1 as a way for older Scouts and returning service men to get involved in the running of Scout Troops that suffered during the war, in addition, Rovering was seen as a way to rebuild communities that were heavily impacted by the conflict. Since its inception and introduction in South Africa there are more then 600 Rovers across the country.

The aim of Rovers is to provide an environment for like-minded people to pursue their enthusiasm for outdoor adventure and the desire to be of service to others.

The objective of Rovers is to combine outdoor adventure with leadership, teamwork and citizenship. Where young adults can focus on their studies, future careers and life. Whilst being of service to the Scouting community as well as their surrounding communities.

Advancements

Similar to the other Scouting branches, Rovers follow a structured advancement system that steers rovers through their development into adulthood.

Personal Bar:
Aimed at giving Rovers the essential skills needed at a young age like, budgeting, opening bank accounts, writing a CV, and developing future personal plans for studying and life.

Movement Bar:
Aimed at allowing Rovers to get involved with the younger branches of the Scouting Movements, Cubs and Scouts.

Community Bar:
Aimed at Rovers giving back to their communities by getting involved in community associations and developing projects that will combat social issues.

Leadership Bar:
Aimed at providing Rovers an opportunity to take part in leadership roles and achieve goals set out by them during a given period.

The BP Award:
This is the highest award Rovers can achieve. It requires dedication to the Rovers Motto of Service and to their development as a citizen of South Africa.
